Benton wildlife control tip of the month:

How to Kill an Opossum

Having opossum in the garden might cause the problem for a lot of people. Many Benton pest control people want to kill the pest if they spot it nearby. Thankfully opossums are nocturnal animals and can be quite difficult to see, while they avoid people as much as possible.

What needs to be said is that there is really no point in killing opossum. Animal could be simply trapped and relocated to another more suitable location. But if you still insist on killing the opossum, do it as humanely and responsibly as possible.

Possible solutions how to kill an opossum are: Shooting, Lethal traps, Poison

Shooting an opossum is actually one of the most accepted methods of killing the opossum in the country. However, shooting an opossum isn´t always easy to execute they are very difficult to be spotted and hunting usually takes place at night. When opossum has been killed you need to take of the area, where killing took place. Opossums are known for their Benton animal control blood diseases and therefore the area needs to be disinfected.

Lethal traps are traps represent a big risk for all similar sized animals. The animal we don´t want to catch might get killed in this traps, like dogs and cats. This kind of death is very painful and looks a lot like torture. If you decide to kill the opossum, shooting it is a better Benton wildlife removal solution. The best solution still remains live trapping and relocation of the animal.

Poison is another inhumane and not to mention illegal way of killing opossum. There is no legally registered poison for killing opossums. This possibility could potentially become very dangerous, if opossum doesn´t eat enough poison. While the poison causes a lot of suffering and pain the animal can become unpredictable and dangerous. Poisoned opossum often dies in areas which are difficult to reach and the smell of decomposing carcass can cause a lot of problems. The same Benton animal trapping problem occurs as with lethal traps; poison might kill an animal that wasn´t targeted. This method is inhumane and not acceptable. If opossum must be killed, then shoot him.

Before deciding whether to kill an opossum or not ask yourself one question. Do I really want to kill this animal? Many Benton exterminator people exaggerate when they spot the opossum and want to kill it. One of the things you have to keep in mind, if you decide to do it is the removal of the carcasses and everything else connected to cleaning of the area afterwards. It is really much easier and far more humane just to live trap the opossum and transport it to a friendlier surrounding.
